Usually people encounter electrons for the first time in chemistry. These negatively charged particles orbit the nucleus in fascinating patterns. These patterns can change dramatically if the electron is induced to a higher energy state. Energy is released if the electron decays back to a lower energy state.
Why do I mention all of this? Because people, like electrons, perform meaningful work when moving from an excited state to a neutral one. They learn and create the most in the space between discomfort and confidence in one’s abilities. So ask which “stimuli” puts people in an excited state, and understand that continual stimuli is needed to offset “decay” back to a ground state.
